SATs papers should diagnose, not just test

Searches for Year 6 SATs papers, maths SATs papers and KS2 practice papers are extremely common. Papers are valuable, but repeating them without reviewing the causes of mistakes can create frustration rather than progress.

Before the paper: teach the knowledge and methods your child needs.
During the paper: practise timing, careful reading and sensible checking.
After the paper: group mistakes by topic and turn them into a revision plan.

Understanding SATs results

What does a scaled score of 100 mean?

In the English Key Stage 2 national curriculum tests, a scaled score of 100 or more means a pupil has met the expected standard in that test. Scores are reported on a scale from 80 to 120. Our focus is not on chasing a number through pressure. It is on developing the underlying maths, reading and English skills that allow pupils to perform confidently.

SATs tutoring FAQs

Questions parents ask about Year 6 SATs

Clear answers about KS2 SATs tuition, practice papers, subjects, scores and online lessons.

Year 6 SATs are national curriculum assessments taken at the end of Key Stage 2 in England. They assess mathematics, English reading, and grammar, punctuation and spelling.

Maintained schools in Wales use Welsh national reading and numeracy personalised assessments rather than the English KS2 SATs system. We can still support families following the English curriculum, preparing for other school assessments, relocating or strengthening Year 6 skills.

Lessons can cover maths arithmetic and reasoning, English reading comprehension, grammar, punctuation and spelling, vocabulary, practice papers and exam technique.

Yes. Suitable official and exam-style papers can be used to assess progress and practise timing. We also review mistakes carefully so each paper leads to targeted teaching.

Yes. One-to-one lessons can focus on one weaker area, such as arithmetic, reasoning or reading comprehension, or provide a balanced programme across the full set of SATs subjects.

In the English KS2 tests, a scaled score of at least 100 means the pupil has met the expected standard in that individual test.

The right time depends on your child’s current attainment and confidence. Starting early enough to close gaps gradually is usually more effective than relying on intense revision immediately before the tests.
